Historically Thornlands was a rural location mainly growing fruit, the area is now primarily suburban residences, with the southern parts rural residences, comprising land blocks of all sizes. The population is growing rapidly due to new housing developments, currently sitting at around 15,000 people.
Transport
Thornlands is approx 28km east-south-east of Brisbane but doesn't have a train station although Cleveland station is only a short drive and Brisbane CBD is around 40 minutes by car.
Thornlands is positioned between Victoria Point and Cleveland and offers a quiet living option but is still close to shopping, nightlife and all the water sports that Bayside living has to offer.

Thornlands attracts people seeking a quieter living option with good school options being important. There are many new developments in the northern side of the suburb with the southern half predominantly made up of acreage properties.
There's a close community feel with residents feeling that it is a safe suburb for families. There is an average mix of age groups throughout the suburb enjoying the bay breezes and close 10 minute proximity to surrounding foreshores.
Thornlands is known as a great suburb to live in with families loving the quiet bayside lifestyle, and travelling to other suburbs for entertainment and work. It offers a central access point to the Bay via Victoria Point or Cleveland with plenty of parks and sports fields but with no foreshore. With no train station or direct roads to Brisbane local residents feel that it's a quiet and safe suburb.
The area is now primarily suburban residences, with the southern parts of rural residences, comprising larger acreage blocks. The modern homes in the developed areas are of later designs to suit modern needs.
There are a small number of townhouses available, 3 bedroom and 4 bedroom entry level homes along with much grandeur homes and acreage properties.

Thornlands boasts a variety of quality schooling options, including private and public schools such as Cleveland District State High School, Bay View State School, Thornlands State School, Carmel College and Faith Lutheran College, in addition to several early learning centres.

Thornlands is regarded as a quiet suburb with no train station or major shopping centre, there is a small shopping centre and plenty of coffee shops with a new complex being constructed on BoundaryRd. The local residents feel that it's a safe suburb to bring up children.
